Landscape plan installation on Sydney's North Shore

Already have a plan from a landscape designer or architect? I can help you put it in the ground and look after it while it establishes.

A good plan still needs someone to build it. I read and follow the plan you already have, source the plants, prepare the soil, plant it out and look after it afterwards. If you're not sure your plan suits the site, I'll tell you what I see before we start.

What I do

  1. Read the plan

I go through the plan with you on site: the plant schedule, spacings, levels and anything that needs checking before work starts.

  2. Source and set out the plants

I source the plants on the schedule, then lay them out in their pots so you can see the layout before anything goes in the ground.

  3. Prepare the soil

Clearing, weed removal and soil preparation to suit your soil and the plants on the plan.

  4. Plant

Planting to the plan's spacings, watered in, with mulch where the bed needs it.

  5. Dry stone retaining walls

I build dry stone walls as part of the soft landscaping, where the plan calls for them.

  6. Aftercare and maintenance

Watering advice, follow-up visits and ongoing maintenance so the design establishes the way it was meant to.

Hard landscaping

For paving, decks and other hard landscaping beyond dry stone walls, I can bring in a landscaper I work with. They quote and charge at their own rates.

What to send me

  • The plan, including the plant schedule if there is one
  • A few photos of the area as it is now
  • Your suburb and any timing you need to work to

Questions about plan installation

Can I hire someone just to install my landscape plan?

Yes. I install planting and soft landscaping plans drawn by landscape designers and architects. Send me the plan and some photos of the site, and I'll look at it and quote for the work.

Do I need my designer involved during installation?

Not necessarily. I follow the plan as drawn. If something on site doesn't match it, such as drainage, levels or a plant that isn't available, I'll check with you before changing anything, and with your designer too if you'd like them involved.

What happens if a plant on the plan isn't available?

I look for a substitute with a similar size, form and growing needs, and confirm it with you before buying. Nothing gets swapped without your OK.

Do I need council approval for a retaining wall?

It depends on the wall's height and position and on your council's rules. NSW has exempt development rules for some small retaining walls, but not every wall qualifies. Check with your council or the NSW Planning Portal before building. My council garden rules guide links to the relevant pages.

Can you do paving, decks or other hard landscaping?

My work is the soft landscaping: soil, planting, mulch and dry stone retaining walls. For paving, decks and other hard landscaping I can bring in a landscaper I work with, who quotes and charges at their own rates.

How is plan installation priced?

By quote. Labour is charged at my hourly rate, plus plants and materials. I work out the quote from the plan and a look at the site.
